The Brook Waimarama Sanctuary Trust is a non-profit, community-led organisation that now has achieved the fully fenced predator free 700 hectare enclosure of mature native forest on Nelson City’s doorstep. It opened to the public this month and next steps will be to reintroduce rare native New Zealand wildlife such as kiwi, mohua and tuatara. The Trust has a committed and vibrant team.
This position is offered for a one year contract and takes a lead role in coordinating field volunteer activities and reports to the Operations Manager. You will help induct, train and support volunteers, plan and coordinate site projects, and procure and maintain equipment and plant. You will work closely with other operations team members to plan work programmes, coordinate resources and monitor progress making best use of the committed volunteer community.
Our ideal applicant will have formal training in ecological conservation or visitor asset development/management and some relevant experience which may include pest eradication, track development, weed control, facilities maintenance or similar. You will have well developed organisation and planning skills and experience in managing a number of projects concurrently. As well, you will have the interpersonal skills to maximise the effectiveness and enjoyment of the volunteers.
